December Daily® 2018 – Day Eight to Day Thirteen

More from this little project.

Day Eight began with this red envelope and a lovely star.

I removed the star and made a spread all about making the Christmas pudding and then going to                    to see the first Star Wars film accompanied by a live orchestra! It was amazing. Would definitely recommend this kind of concert.

Day nine is a photo on the back of the Star Wars picture of the crazy pooch laying as close to the                  fire as he can…..

Day ten began as a velum page.

I kept the vellum and added a big title onto a photo of the back of our house for day ten. You                    can’t really see him but Buddy is sat by the doors looking out at me. Always love a ‘looking in’                photo.

For day eleven I added a picture of making Christmas cakes and slipped the story into the pocket                I’d already made for this day. A strip of washi tape adds a little colour.

Day twelve was all about the purchasing of our T.V magazine of choice for festive telly watching.

Very busy day thirteen which began like this.

I kept the number and made another spread with a couple of photos and in between them I                      added an envelope with the story on the outside.

Love this photo of my Mum and our youngest family member.

And of course my darling niece. We went to see Bohemian Rhapsody at the cinema.

And finally for this update day fourteen.

I added the two labels from a new little tree into a pocket page. I thought it was interesting that                      they told you on the label how to look up where the tree had been grown. It was something that                needed to be kept.

Okay back with the rest soon.

December Daily® 2018 – Day Three to Seven

Well December you have done it to me again. I blinked and it’s the 20th! How does that happen?? Still wanting to share the days I have managed to complete so here are a few more days.

At the time of writing we are having computer problems so I can’t access the original pages from my post in November…… hey ho.

Day three was all about my new bottle brush tree and the house I made during our girls crafting day.

Day four was a fold out page and it stayed like that. I stamped ‘the story of the tree’ in red ink on the page.

Added a photo of a silver star that is hanging on our little tree then wrote the story on the fold out portion of the page.

A few words for the fifth.

More moaning about my cold on the sixth but a lovely story about H making her cards. The white pen was a challenge!

A two page spread for day seven. Above is a photo of my sister and my brother in law (who’s carrying my tree) And later H and I went to my Mums to decorate her tree. It is a tradition I love.

I hadn’t added any words when I took the photos. Wasn’t sure where I wanted to add the stories. As it turned out I wrote directly onto the photos. Seems that’s my go to this year.

And there we have a few more. Hope your December is going well.

December Daily® 2018 – Day One and Two

At the start of the month I thought it might be tricky to get this album made day to day but it has been more of a challenge than I thought! December always does it to me. But with the hectic and rushed comes the good too I just need to keep reminding myself about that.

Anyway here is day one and two.

As you can see I wrote about my feelings for the spirit of Christmas on day one and the traditions that get the month going. If you recall the only prep for this day was the white page base and the number ‘1’. That starburst circle is actually the negative bit from an Ali Edwards sheet of silver die cuts. I backed it with more white card and added a one on top.

I’d gone along to the local photo shop last Saturday, the 8th, and printed a weeks worth of pictures. All 4 x 6 some portrait and some landscape and all taken with my phone. The above photo was a portrait one so I cut it down to fit the page which is about 5 x 7. Love having the photo run up to the edge of the page on the right hand side. The words strip is also and Ali design from a past December Daily kit.

Day two was changed from the original which looked like this.

I wanted to include the snow globe because it’s sooooo cute so I cut it out of the paper and simply adhered it to my photo.

I added a tab page turner on the right and wrote (rather messily!) my words on the mirror in the photo. All about another wonderful tradition, girls crafting day.

Hoping your holiday season is going well and will be back soon with more.

December Daily® 2018 – Album Cover and Foundation Pages

At last I’m sharing the set up for this years album. What with Gav moving the site and then my laptop crashing a few days ago I thought I’d never get the chance to share my album before the beginning of the month!

But I made it, just!

I made a change this year and have gone back to a smaller sized album. The main reason for this is to do with my photo printing issues. After struggling with poor prints on my home printer last year I have decided to use my local photo printer instead of doing it at home this year.  It isn’t my preferred option but I’ll give it a go and in this spirit I have down sized my album so I can include mainly 4 x 6 sized pictures.

I have also returned whole heartedly to red!

Using up lots of older supplies.

And a couple of new ones. Love those transparent stars from Ali Edwards.

Also love some fold out pages.

Leaving lots of pages loose and including a few pocket pages cut down to size.

Envelopes are a true favourite.

Like I say very loose!

I even found some cast off paint projects! I may cover all of this up but we will see.

So there we have it. A foundation to build this years stories upon. I’m very excited to begin this lovely tradition once again.

December Daily® 2017 – Day Sixteen to Twenty Five

At last, I have completed last years December album. The delay was partly due to waiting for the photographs now that I have no reliable printer and partly due to lack of motivation. I know myself and I know that I need to try and complete this album as I go because I lose enthusiasm if time ticks on. I’ll have to get a strategy sorted out before this December!

But never mind that here are the last few days.

Used a flip up page to get two little stories into the album on the 16th. I also used a 9 pocket page (moved from earlier in the album) to add photos of all our festive mugs. I adore a festive cup so it was a nice visual story to add in.

I used both sides of the nine pocket page.

As you will notice I have a few places to add in words but I know I’ll get there. Here is day seventeen and the story of the trip north for our anniversary. I used a wooden deer stapled inside the far right pocket and positioned it so you can see the ’18’ through.

Some of these photos are the last few I tried to print at home. I started to get fancy with a fold out page for our break away but the quality of the photos was making me so cross…… I did finish it and although the photos are not good I’ll live with it!

Using washi tape to adhere the two pages together. I also added in an index tab.

The photos sort of merge together for these couple of days but I’m fine with that.

Did manage to add a few words to that ’19’ card.

Not much happened on the twentieth so I simply filled the pockets with pretty cards added a little ‘thankful’ story and left it at that.

H came over on the 21st and I used my typewriter to jot down a few highlights. That photo of us wrapping tells it all really though. Such a helpful girl trying to get me organised! And of course we had our festive headgear on!

On the right of that page above is day twenty two and a story about going to spend time with my other niece and our newest addition.

I ordered a large photos of the mantle and below one of Gav in the kitchen love how they look in the album.

Some word stickers were added to the photo on the right and I popped a piece of gold star transparency into the pocket above that photo.

And then the big day. I kept many of the tags and bits and bobs attached to gifts this year. My sister went all out and there were little wooden shapes and glittery stars.

My older niece, nephew and baby elf! Had to get all the elves together right?

So there we go. I’ll add my writing then tuck this away with all the others for ten months…….

Although I found getting this album finished a bit of hard work still love this project so much and am really glad I have these stories all together.

December Daily® – Day Nine to Day Fifteen

Here we go with a few more days.

As a reminder day nine looked like this in my foundation pages. It was a four pocket page.

I went with a combination of two photos, one of Buddy and one of my Christmas play list,  a print out of some lyrics and a 3×4 journal card. The story that goes with the lyrics. I had made that journal card earlier in the month and used a musical notes stamp. I thought that music would feature at some point in December and it turned out to be perfect for this story. Love that gold embossed look.

Day ten is a no photo page. This also uses a couple of pre-made 3 x 4 cards both in gold and tells the story of how I went to a carol service at a local church. I added the programme from the service into the album too.

The star card was made using gold leaf that I have had in my stash for years and the other card used a polka dot stamp that I gold embossed.

Day eleven was originally a 3 pocket page, two 4×4 and a 2×4. However, I had a 6×8 photo for day twelve so decided to lay out day eleven as if it was inside the original style page protector but was actually just adhered to the back of the day Twelve enlarged photo.

Here is that large photo for day twelve. I typed up the journaling onto the photograph in photoshop before I printed. I found that it printed ok too. Still having issues with darker pictures but not sold on the quality of the local photo place. I going to try printing at home and just work with the darker images. Not ideal but better than not completing the project as I go.

I adore the enlarged pictures and white type.

You can see day thirteen in the image above. Another no photo page and using a spotty transparency with thirteen added to that.

I used a 5×7 envelope wrote a few words on a sheet of paper and popped them inside. I added a stamped image and the gold large arrow paperclip to the outside of the envelope.

Here is what day fourteen looked like originally.

I moved the page protector to the right of the envelope and put that kraft and gold star card a little further on in the album.

‘Tradition’ is hand written with a gold sharpie, the number is a stamp and the black negative circle is punched from black velvet effect paper. The photo is a selfie of me and the advent calendar.

Here is what day fifteen looked like in the foundation pages.

But was now a three pocket page. I found a 3×4 journal card that said around the house and felt like it was a good time to document some of the festive scenes around here.

The right page is a cut down 4 pocket page. I added some letter stickers to two of the photos and a label to the 4×6. A few star brads completed this spread.

And there we are caught up a little bit more.

December Daily® 2017 – Day Four and Day Five

Hey! A couple more days are done so I thought I’d share. Still having printer problems and decided to send all the photos I’ve taken this past week off to get printed. I’ll swap them when they arrive. For the rest of the month I think I’ll go to a local photo place and see what the quality is like.

Anyway here is what day four looked like originally.

It was sited on the left of the album and had that lovely 3×4 card with the snow globe on it. I’d already added the number four.

As I’d adjusted some earlier pages day four was now on the right. I loved the 3×4 card and the ‘let’s stay home’ words and my story came from that when I found a photo I’d taken the day before of our garden in the sunlight.

I cut the page protector in half so I had two 3×4 pockets instead of four then added the photo of the garden.

On the back I made a circle card with some punched circles from velum and patterned paper and a little heart. This was totally inspired by Ali and a page she made in her Product Play class.

Can’t remember using pink much before in these albums but I liked that star paper and thought it looked great.

Journaled on another card with a touch of red running around the edge so it tied in with the circle card.

For day five I had already added the white polka dot transparency and added the number to that piece and stapled it inside the pocket. You can see the original page at the top of this post.

I bought this style of page protector by accident but wanted to try to use them all the same. They are three pockets, two 4×4’s and one 2×6.

There was another card in the mini kit I’d bought earlier this year that said ‘I’ll bring the merry’ I’d already honed in on it and wanted to use it somewhere in the album. The story from the fifth fit that perfectly.

No photo on this page just some typed journaling about a conversation I had with my niece about Christmas magic.

The photo doesn’t show this page very well but I left the transparency in the same pocket, added the sentiment to some patterned paper with Christmassy words for the background and my story went into that long pocket. I added a punched snowflake to the top of the page.

I must admit that having more time on my hands this December is influencing the stories I’m telling. Not only does more time mean I can do more festive things but I can also reflect a little more too which means I have so far told two stories that I’m not sure I would have done in a different year.

But that is the beauty of this album right? The chance to look for those stories and document them.

December Daily® 2017 – Day One to Day Three

Hello and welcome to the first few days of this December Daily® album.

I added an intention page at the front of the album. I wasn’t going to but so many thoughts were rattling around in my mind I thought it was better to get them out and down on paper, plus I know I will be thankful that I did in years to come.

As I said the other day I have been embracing the gold and I used some new alphabet stickers on this page mixed with two washi tapes and the writing done on my vintage type writer. Typing on that machine is always imperfect but I am ok with that. (I typed remember at least twice and misspelled every time!)

I did move that twelve pocket page to further along in the month.

Also having a little issue with my photo printer so the colours are off in these first pages. I intend to fix it and re-print the images.

For day one I used a photo of my feet on our snowy lawn. This is a large picture and not contained in a page protector as it is the reverse of the intention page. I added the story to the photo before printing. When I re-print I’ll reduce the size of the font on the writing and I’ll also add a number one off to one side of the image.

Here is what day two and three looked like.

I removed one of the page protectors and had day two on the right side of the album opposite day one. I also used some velum to hold the number tag and added handwritten journalling to a plain white card adhered to a card from the One Little Bird mini kit I got in the sale. The ‘today’s’ stamp is from an Ali Edwards set and the ‘stories’ is from a Kelly Purkey one.

So day three moved to the left of the next page and contains the story of our girls crafting afternoon.

The three circle was cut down so it fit behind the circle for day two and I hand wrote a little label and adhered it to the 4 x 6 photo along with a star brad.

Simple and done!

On to the next….

Hello December

Here we are then. It’s time to begin the journey through December embracing all that is magical and beautiful about the season. I’m all ready to tell my first story and follow it with more and more until we reach twenty five!

As I got my foundation pages and my cover ready I was thinking about what stories I might tell this year. I watched videos from The Storytelling with December Daily class again, made some notes and thought about how the past nine years worth of December stories flowed. I know I struggle sometimes with time and getting the photos printed. I like to make the album as I go if I can but that doesn’t always work. But it will be okay.

I’ve rounded up a few previous posts –  20152014, 2012, 2011. All of my thoughts in past years still ring true today and I love looking back in order to make new lists and get ready.

Not much else to add apart from reading Ali’s post which includes many links to her previous years of getting ready and to welcome December and do it!

December Daily® 2017 – Album Cover

Here we are once again. Time it flies! As ever I am excited to document our December and have made an album to hold the stories of the season.

As I thought about what I wanted on the cover this year I gathered together all my previous albums, nine of them……

Yes, nine! Don’t they look sweet. Can’t believe this will be my tenth year with December Daily® Something to stop and think about here is the collection of those stories over the years. They are treasures for sure and as the lady who devised this concept says it’s the sum of those stories that is the key.

I had a good look at the previous albums, at the colours and motifs I’ve used over the years. Snowflakes, Christmas Trees, stars are the main themes. Red, white and kraft with a touch of silver have been my go to colours.

Then I browsed my Pinterest boards for inspiration and honed in on this one and this one. Something about the white and silver/grey papers spoke to me and I  loved the idea of the ‘negative’ shape for the front of the album.

But before I did that bit I prepared the base of the covers.

I found two sturdy cardboard sheets and cut them to about 7 x 9 attaching washi tape around the edges of the covers as you can see above. This means I don’t have to paint the cover and try to get the paint into those rougher edges. Rougher because they have been cut. I have painted covers in the past but it’s a long process and I thought I’d go with a cardstock base instead.

After getting the front and back covers ready I cut out my star shape using a die cut star as a guide. I tried to ‘size it up’.

It’s not the perfect star shape but I’m fine with how it turned out and I went on to cut the shape out of a piece of wood grain card then adhered the negative shape to the front cover at an off set angle.

On the inside of each cover I added some pretty paper I’ve had in my stash for years. It is cream with flecks of sliver and gold.

Added faux stitching to the star shape with a silver pen and scattered silver and gold sequins onto the star.

I tried several different placements for items on the cover. I wanted to use a pewter snowflake from a Tim Holtz set and I tied some bakers twine onto it. I also tried a metal tag to hold the title and different coloured card as the base for the tag.

I find taking a photo a great way to see the bigger picture so to speak and in the end left off the tag and stamped directly onto the woodgrain card with black ink. The stamps are from an Ali Edwards stamp set.

I added the three hearts and the g,m,b from a set of tiny rub-ons that always seem to make it onto the covers of my December albums.

For the first time since my first album I didn’t add a 25 onto the cover. Time for a change I thought.

So there it is. See previous years posts about making the covers 2016, 2015, 2014, 2013, 2012, 2011. And I’ll share my foundation pages soon. Excited doesn’t ‘cover’ it. Lol!
