Photo a Day – Week Forty One and Forty Two

Back with some more photos. But first a word on two missing weeks! I decided not to share weeks thirty nine and forty. Many photos are included in December Daily and I felt as if I was duplicating and showing the same things over again so I have broken with tradition and decided to skip those two weeks.

So here we are with week forty one.

Helped Gav plant four step over apple trees. Does this count as ‘plant and orchard’ which is on my list…..

Dog walks with my sister.

One of a set of lovely wooden decorations that my Mum bought me years ago.

A sleepover and she made pancakes for breakfast.

Gav has a new game on the x-box. I was thinking about this photo. Sometimes, most times we ‘edit’ our lives to show them in the best light. That’s social media for ya! But sometimes I like to see the real life. The mess. This is an excellent example. Shoes by the door, cups and glasses, a plate with chocolate wrappers on it, a random pair of scissors! I love my house when it’s neat and tidy but that is not my day to day reality. Good to remember that.

And week forty two.

Christmas is not Christmas without Panettone. Gav bought me a teeny choc/orange one. Yum.

First self timer of the year. Or should I say first failed self timer of the year. Look at the pooch!

Here he is again.

Last of the Christmas cheese.

Blurry but wonderful. Here in the UK we tend to take out decorations down before twelfth night. I wanted to celebrate the season one last time so lit lots of candles and we ate dinner in here (we are very bad and usually eat on our knees!) It was a lovely evening and the photo sums it up perfectly.

A part finished wreath. Next year I’m starting earlier.

Light on terracotta pots.

And there goes another two weeks.

Click Tick List – Photograph 100 Gardens – Villa Reale di Marlia

Sharing another wonderful visit to a Tuscan garden today. Full of character, follies, pools and even a disused swimming pool, the gardens of Villa Reale were a treat. And the amazing thing was we only saw four other visitors while we were there.

Even the walk from car to garden was even lined with cyclamen.

Perfect vista looking towards the main villa.

The garden itself was sprawling and beautiful with different areas such as the potted citrus garden below.

The light of course was amazing with that blue sky contrasting the greens and architecture so well.

A pretty knot garden tucked away at the side of one of the many buildings on the estate.

Sculpture and urns, topiary and fountains it was all packed in.

Along with the largest Hibiscus I’ve ever seen!

Truly lovely afternoon spent meandering and of course another added towards my 100!

December Daily® 2018 – Day Eight to Day Thirteen

More from this little project.

Day Eight began with this red envelope and a lovely star.

I removed the star and made a spread all about making the Christmas pudding and then going to                    to see the first Star Wars film accompanied by a live orchestra! It was amazing. Would definitely recommend this kind of concert.

Day nine is a photo on the back of the Star Wars picture of the crazy pooch laying as close to the                  fire as he can…..

Day ten began as a velum page.

I kept the vellum and added a big title onto a photo of the back of our house for day ten. You                    can’t really see him but Buddy is sat by the doors looking out at me. Always love a ‘looking in’                photo.

For day eleven I added a picture of making Christmas cakes and slipped the story into the pocket                I’d already made for this day. A strip of washi tape adds a little colour.

Day twelve was all about the purchasing of our T.V magazine of choice for festive telly watching.

Very busy day thirteen which began like this.

I kept the number and made another spread with a couple of photos and in between them I                      added an envelope with the story on the outside.

Love this photo of my Mum and our youngest family member.

And of course my darling niece. We went to see Bohemian Rhapsody at the cinema.

And finally for this update day fourteen.

I added the two labels from a new little tree into a pocket page. I thought it was interesting that                      they told you on the label how to look up where the tree had been grown. It was something that                needed to be kept.

Okay back with the rest soon.

Layout Share – Good Times on the People Mover

Way back in October I shared a layout from our 2017 USA trip and said I was hoping to wrap up the album by the end of the month. Seems that no goal setting stuck in 2018!

But…… A new year brings new enthusiasm and while I was putting all the Christmas things away and getting December Daily finished I found the aforementioned album at the bottom of piles of festive stuff! I hadn’t so much forgotten about it just one of those phases of doing other hobbies and putting scrapping to one side.

I have tidied my desk and have photos and post it notes laid out up there. I also have Project Life all over the dining room table…………. I’ll get there.

Anyway I thought I’d share a page that is complete.

Good Times on the People Mover

Here is the story –

So glad we waited in the queue for them to fix this sweet little ride. I remember I loved it the first              time in 2013 with Bev etc. And really loved taking Gav on it this time. A perfect vantage point above the crowds to see all around. One of my favourite moments.

Love this page and the story. Looking forward to getting the rest of this album finished! Onwards.

What I Read in 2018 – A Recap

What can I say? My goal to read two books a month in 2018 has failed. I think my total is only seventeen….. No wait! I forgot another Jack Reacher book…..Eighteen.  Oh well never mid eh? There is always 2019…….

Here are all the books from 2018 –

  • A Cotswold Ordeal – Rebecca Tope
  • Bad Luck and Trouble – Lee Child
  • Maise Dobbs – Jaqueline Winspear
  • The Visitor – Lee Child
  • The Paper Moon – Andrea Camilleri
  • Rooted in Evil – Ann Granger
  • Murder in the Museum – John Rowland
  • Without Fail – Lee Child
  • A Presumption of Death – Jill Patton Walsh and Dorothy L Sayers
  • The Affair – Lee Child
  • August Heat – Andrea Camilleri
  • 61 Hours – Lee Child
  • The Attenbury Emeralds – Jill Patton Walsh
  • The Enemy – Lee Child
  • Tripwire – Lee Child
  • Turbo Twenty Three – Janet Evanovich
  • The Little Scholar – Jill Patton Walsh
  • Make Me – Lee Child

You can see that I stayed firmly in my comfort zone and read an awful lot of Reacher. But I’m okay with it. I’ll pop back soon with my reading plan for 2019.

One Little Word® 2019 – Heart

I mentioned the other day that I was joining in on this year long project again. This will be my sixth year.

Previous words were –

  • Practice
  • Light
  • Whole
  • Align
  • Listen

This I wanted to write down that ‘success’ doesn’t come into my journey. In my head I always consider that I have failed with this concept because 1) I don’t complete all the prompts from the class and 2) I don’t really change. I’m sure I written about this before but wanted to state is here again.

It is not a case of success or failure. I shall try to do every prompt this year but want to give myself some grace and not put too many ‘things’ into the equation.

Ali had the same thoughts. Her word is habit and she wants to cultivate a yoga practice more days than not this year. She wrote that if she did that ‘it would be enough’.

My word is Heart. It popped into my head last October and hung around. It came from thoughts about looking after my heart in a literal sense. Living well to keep a healthy heart. All too often in my journey with words I have listed so many things I want to work on. This year while I know other things will come up I want to primarily focus on my health.

I want to get back to walking 10k steps a day (except Wednesday when I’m at work for 10 hours….). I want to practice yoga three or four times a week. I want to loose a little weight. This is such a huge ‘thing’ in my life and I don’t often discuss it here. It’s a battle I’ve had all my adult life. Part of me feels that I should accept what I am and get on with it but that is a very hard thing to do. So this year I’ll try to get to a certain weight which will help my health and stay at that weight. When I began walking 10k steps a couple of years ago I held a steady weight for months. So a little cutting back and more steps should help this plan.

And that is all I’m thinking about right now. Steps, Yoga, less unhealthy food.

What’s your word this year?

One Little Word® is a project developed by Ali Edwards. Read all about it over https://aliedwards.com/one-little-word

Hello 2019

It seemed fitting to include the photo of a bright white newly opened Helleborus niger as the start of this post.

A new beginning, a fresh start. That is what a new year is supposed to be isn’t it. Yet every year I have mixed feelings. On the one hand I get it and on the other I’m clinging onto the festive season, the indulgence, the extra ‘doing nothing’ time.

Instead of rambling on about that I’m going to share some of the things I’m hoping to do this year!

  • Started One Little Word® more on my word to come.
  • Joining in with Adriene and her 30 day Yoga Challenge
  • Finishing December Daily®
  • Cross at least 8 things off my Click Tick List! I think is is possible for me to get all these numbers crossed off –  11, 12, 14, 24, 25, 36, 76, 81, 83, 88, 94, 95, 96, 98 and 99! Wish me luck……
  • Completing 2018 Project Life and start this years album. May change it up a bit but still love this project so want to carry on with it.
  • Go adventuring with family to Portugal.
  • Complete our 2017 scrapbook.
  • Grow flowers and vegetables.
  • Carry on doing all the hobbies! I began three new ones last year and have started weaving again..
  • Read books and try to either read or get rid of that huge pile of ‘to be read’ ones.
  • Go to London with Gav and Han.
  • Arrange flowers.
  • Experience the magic of Disney World and a mini road trip in the USA.
  • Take photographs.
  • Laugh at lot.

Okay enough of the crazy rambling list making! Let’s get on with it.
